Have you ever wondered "What is a power supply? Or "How is it used?" These are just some of the questions people ask themselves, and the next question is usually "how does it work?"
To keep things simple, power supply is basically an electronic component that takes an input voltage and converts it to an output voltage that can be used by a device. The most common type takes an AC input and DC output provides a, which is sometimes called an AC-to-DC converter or DC power supply. This type is used in most electronics devices today. Just about every electronic device has some kind of power supply built into it, and others are built into their power cords, such as computers and cell phone chargers.
There are other types of that accept a DC input and provide a DC output. These are usually called DC-to-DC converters. Most of these types are used in industrial applications to power up field devices that operate off of a solar battery. Another type is called an inverter, which takes a DC output and converts it into an AC output. These are most commonly used in vehicles, which are sometimes used to power up portable TV 's, DVD players, and small tools. They are also used in RV's for lights, small microwaves, and other small electrical equipment.
They are many different types and brands that offer a variety of output voltages. Some power supplies are only used for everyday applications that don't require any special kind of rating or mounting connections, while others are made for specific applications or environments. For these types of applications, they're usually made with heavy duty casing and electronics, so that they don't fail in extreme environment conditions. An example of this would be if a power supply were to be placed in an area with a lot of vibration or movement. It would have to be able to withstand the constant movement and vibration. The weather and humidity can also affect its function and performance as well. So it must to be able to withstand the hot and cold weather conditions. These are just some of the examples of the types of environments that need to be considered when selecting a power supply.
I know by reading this, I hope you have a little bit of an understanding of what a power supply is and what is does. Thanks for reading.
